Men's lacrosse closes season with loss to Birmingham-Southern

The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to the homestanding Birmingham-Southern Panthers 24-2 Friday evening in Alabama, marking the end to their season. The Stormy Petrels scored single goals in the second and third quarters but couldn't keep up with Birmingham-Southern. Oglethorpe fell to 4-10 overall and 0-6 in SAA play to close the campaign.

The Panthers scored four goals in the opening quarter to take a 4-0 lead. Oglethorpe responded with a marker in the second quarter as sophomore middie Brian Green found the net with 3:28 to go. However, Birmingham-Southern outscored the Petrels 8-1 in that quarter and 6-1 in the third, though freshman middie Michael Burdge gave the visitors their lone man-up goal of the game to make it 15-2 at the 4:23 mark. Birmingham-Southern outscored Oglethorpe 9-0 the rest of the way, though, en route to the 22-goal win.

Burdge scooped seven ground balls for the Petrels while Green came up with four. Freshman goalie Addison Irwin stopped 23 Birmingham-Southern shots. 

The Panthers outshot Oglethorpe 47-8 on net, won 20 of 30 faceoffs, forced 33 Petrel turnovers, scooped 51 ground balls, and held the Petrels to 12-of-26 on clear attempts.
