Men's track and field earns coaches' all-academic team award; McNealey, Hadden garner individual honors

The Oglethorpe men's track and field team grabbed all-academic team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week, while freshman Bryce McNealey and sophomore Jacob Hadden earned individual all-academic honors from the organization.

The Stormy Petrels served as one of 113 teams from around Division III to earn USTFCCCA all-academic status, accruing a 3.27 team GPA over the spring semester. Any team with a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 is eligible for the award.

Hadden earned his third USTFCCCA all-academic award, but his first for track and field. McNealey, who qualified for the 400-meter competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May, garnered his first career all-academic award.

The two served as part of a group of 462 men from Division III schools to earn all-academic status. All invididuals to compile a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA, and to either qualify for the NCAA Division III indoor or outdoor championships or finish in the top 50 in the nation in an individual event, earned all-academic status. McNealey qualified for nationals and finished 14th in the nation in the 400, while Hadden came in at 47th in the nation in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
