Senior Hailey Willman and sophomore Angel Sanchez of the Oglethorpe women's golf team earned Great Lakes All-Region honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Wednesday night. The teams were announced as part of the WGCA Division III awards banquet at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships in Houston.
Willman earned her first career All-Region honor, adding it to the list of accolades she earned over the course of the season. She garnered a spot on the All-SAA first team for the second time in her career, finishing a career-high fourth at the SAA Championships in late April. Her best finish of the season came at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational, where she came in third. She's currently ranked fifth in the region and 48th in all of Division III.
Sanchez garnered her second career All-Region honor after earning the award in her freshman season of 2017-18, as well. She also earned All-SAA second team accolades this season, marking her second career all-conference honor. She recorded three top 15 finishes during the fall, including a tie for first at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate. She suffered an injury which forced her to sit for a significant portion of the spring, but collected a pair of top 10 finishes when she came back, finishing fifth at the BSC Southern Showdown and sixth at the SAA Championships.
The two Stormy Petrels served as two of 10 Great Lakes All-Region honorees and 50 All-Region honorees from around the nation.
