Women's golf takes fifth at Montgomery Country Club Intercollegiate

The Oglethorpe women's golf team completed their weekend in a blazing hot Montgomery, Alabama, for the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate Sunday. They finished in fifth place out of 12 teams, tallying a two-round score of 51-over-par 627 to finish 27 strokes back of first-place Centre. They fired a 27-over 315 for the day.

The Petrels were led by freshman Sarah Hsu, who finished tied for 12th out of 70 individual competitors with a 36-hole 9-over 153. She shot 5-over 77 for the day and finished 14 strokes back of Centre's Bailey Plourde, the individual medalist. 

Junior Angel Sanchez joined Hsu in the top 15, finishing tied for 15th with a 6-over 78 on Sunday and a two-round 11-over 155. Senior Ana Garcia finished tied for 22nd after posting a 14-over 158 on the weekend, while fellow senior Mara Tiger came in tied for 32nd with a 19-over 163. Junior Alivia Mattiace rounded out the Oglethorpe five with 28-over 172, finishing tied for 51st.

The Petrels also had four golfers competing as individuals, with sophomore Graci Hallenback, freshman Kharynton Beggs, junior Emma Meadows and freshman Hannah Willerson all competing at the event. Hallenback finished first among Petrels individuals, finishing tied for 54th after posting a 14-over 86 on the day. Beggs came in just behind in 56th with a 13-over 85 on Sunday.

Day 1 Recap

The Oglethorpe women's golf team finished the first round in fifth place Saturday at the Montgomery Country Club Intercollegiate in Alabama. The Stormy Petrels shot 24-over-par 312 on Saturday to come in 18 strokes back of first-place Centre after Day 1.

Freshman Sarah Hsu led the way for the Petrels on the day, shooting a 3-over 75 and coming in six strokes back of a first-place tie between Rylee Suttor and Bailey Plourde of Centre. Senior Ana Garcia shot 4-over 76 and finished the day tied for 12th. Junior Angel Sanchez finished the day in 19th after posting an opening-round 5-over 77. Junior Alivia Mattiace finished the day tied for 41st after recording a 12-over 84, while senior Mara Tiger tied for 47th with a 14-over 86.

The Petrels also had a variety of players golfing as individuals, with sophomore Graci Hallenbeck, junior Emma Meadows, and freshmen Hannah Willerson and Kharynton Beggs all competing. Hallenbeck finished first among the Oglethorpe individual competitors with an 18-over 90.

Oglethorpe will be back in action on Sunday morning, when they head back to Montgomery Country Club to finish at 9:30 a.m. Eastern to complete the two-day event.
