The Oglethorpe track and field teams saw two athletes move into position to potentially qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Falcon Finale in Montevallo, Alabama. Senior Arielle Shaw jumped a season-best 38 feet, 6.75 inches in the women's triple jump to move up into a tie for 16th nationally, while freshman Bryce McNealy won the men's 400 meters in a season-best 48.06 seconds and moved up to 14th nationally.
The owners of the top 22 performances in the nation in each individual event qualify for the national meet on the women's side. On the men's side, the owners of the top 20 marks in each event qualify.
The final qualifying meets, representing the last chance for athletes to improve their top performances, take place through Thursday. The NCAA will announce the list of participants in the national meet on Saturday, May 18, with the meet taking place May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
Seniors Rodrigo Meade and Nicolette Andrey also competed for the Stormy Petrels at the Falcon Finale Saturday, on the men's and women's sides, respectively. Meade finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 58.1 seconds. Andrey came in third in the long jump with a distance of 17-3.25.
